The Babylonian siege of Jerusalem begins, c. January 15, 588 BC leading to the eventual destruction of the First Temple The siege lasted roughly 30 months, causing severe famine and disease. It culminated in July/August 586 or 587 BC with the city walls breached, the First Temple burned, and the Kingdom of Judah falling.
