John Balliol is chosen as King of Scots on November 17, 1292 by Edward I of England, who had been asked to arbitrate between 13 claimants, including Balliol and Robert de Brus. Balliol was inaugurated at Scone on November 30, 1292.
However, Edward's frequent interventions and undermining of his authority caused a swift downfall, with Balliol abdicating in 1296, leading to the beginning of the Scottish Wars of Independence.
