The Fatimid Caliphate forces led by General Jawhar, captures Egypt, entering the capital, Fustaf on July 6, 969 and go on to establish Cairo as the new Capital. The Caliphate officially made Cairo the Capital and new Royal city in 973 Royal city changing the seat of power from Tunisia to Egypt.
The Fatimid caliphate (909–1171 CE) was an Isma'ili Shi'a Muslim caliphate founded by rulers claiming descent from Fatima, the daughter of the Prophet Muhammad, They ruled over North Africa and Egypt after its conquest. The dynasty's reign was brought to an end by Saladin, who restored Sunnism to the region in 1171.
