Brian Boru, then King of Munster, and his ally Máel Sechnaill II (High King of Ireland) defeated the allied forces of Leinster and the Dublin Vikings at the Battle of Glenmama on December 30, 999, in County Wicklow. The victory allowed Boru to consolidate power, leading to his control over Dublin and his ascension to High King in 1002.
