NASA Astronomy Picture of the Day:

Three bright objects satisfied seasoned stargazers of the western sky just after sunset earlier this month. The most familiar was the Moon, seen on the upper left in a crescent phase. The rest of the Moon was faintly visible by sunlight first reflected by the Earth. The bright planet Jupiter, the largest planet in the Solar System, is seen to the upper left. Most unusual was Comet 12P/Pons-Brooks, below the Moon and showing a stubby dust tail on the right but an impressive ion tail extending upwards. The featured image, a composite of several images taken consecutively at the same location and with the same camera, was taken near the village of Llers, in Spain's Girona province. Comet Pons-Brooks passed its closest to the Sun last week and is now dimming as it moves into southern skies and returns to the outer Solar System. Almost Hyperspace: Random APOD Generator

May I tell you a story,
of a long time ago,
when myths were real,
and adventures were so,

fantastic to read,
let alone go,
to the end of the world,
for the big show.

An early time,
in the life of Man,
or all Humans,
you must understand.

A time of joy,
a time of strife,
when a husband,
searched for a new wife.

Not all woman,
are stronger than she,
but this lovely one,
was stronger than he.

Her strength, in numbers,
was the shape of her hand,
she caught all the tear drops,
which fell on this land.

A Story (2)

A story so strong,
it would never fail,
for it was only once,
when you could hail.

Love of another,
more beautiful, than thee.
Love from the many,
who could make you flee.

Flee this world,
which we now see,
full of sadness,
and no civility.

Go from this place,
you poor excuse for a man.
Quit abusing your power,
which you don't understand.

NASA Astronomy Picture of the Day:

The Ring Nebula (M57) is more complicated than it appears through a small telescope. The easily visible central ring is about one light-year across, but this remarkably deep exposure - a collaborative effort combining data from three different large telescopes - explores the looping filaments of glowing gas extending much farther from the nebula's central star. This composite image includes red light emitted by hydrogen as well as visible and infrared light. The Ring Nebula is an elongated planetary nebula, a type of nebula created when a Sun-like star evolves to throw off its outer atmosphere and become a white dwarf star. The Ring Nebula is about 2,500 light-years away toward the musical constellation Lyra. Your Sky Surprise: What picture did APOD feature on your birthday? (post 1995)

"When I first arrived on the South End, my biggest concern was finding a job. I’ve always maintained, and still do, that the only thing worse than work is looking for work. The best days of my life are those where I quit or gave notice or just walked off. The worst were the days following when it dawned on me I would now have to go searching for another dead end minimum wage position". More at The Skeeter Daddle Diaries ➜

A snake, a serpent,
a dragon, for three,
sat in a circle,
trying to see.

What was the reason,
for our visibility,
which was one of fear,
when it should not be.

We are good creatures,
we know it is true,
but our images were destroyed.
How do we fix? What can we do?

Remove from the Fables,
which soils our name.
Give us some credit,
which we can retain.

Make stuffed animals,
which are scary, not.
Give it your all,
for it's all we've got.

Alas and alack,
the deal wasn't made,
so be careful outside,
don't lay in the shade.
