King David captures the city of Jerusalem, establishing it as the capital of the United Kingdom of Israel and Judah. More
c. 780 BCE, September
The Muslim scholar and polymath al-Khwarizmi is believe to be born in Uzbekistan, c. September 780 BCE. He was a mathematician active during the Islamic Golden Age, who is known as the “father of algebra.” and for his introduction of the Hindu-Arabic numeral system (0-9) to Europe.
al-Khwarizmi, (Muhammad ibn Musa al-Khwarizmi, worked at the House of Wisdom in Baghdad, the contemporary capital city of the Abbasid Caliphate. His works were foundational for mathematics and science globally. Among his Key Contributions were Algebra, (from the Arabic al-jabr) allowing systematizing to solve equations and the Introduction of the Hindu-Arabic numeral system (0-9) to Europe. The traditional date for the founding of Rome. The city and surrounding region of Latium has continued to be inhabited with little interruption since around that time. According to tradition, Rome was founded by Romulus and Remus in 753 BC.
They were twin brothers, sons of a human mother and the god of war, Mars. After their birth, the king ordered them killed. They were placed in a basket and put into the Tiber River - left to die from exposure in the outdoors. Instead of drowning, the twins' basket washed ashore, where they were found and nursed by a she-wolf (lupa). Later, they were discovered and raised by a shepherd, Faustulus, and his wife. More
The Assyrian Empire conquers the northern kingdom of Israel, leading to the exile of the ten tribes of Israel and the collapse of the kingdom.
The first recorded solar eclipse in ancient Babylonia, which marked the beginning of systematic astronomical observations.
c. 586 BCE
The city of Jerusalem is captured and destroyed by the Babylonian Empire under King Nebuchadnezzar II, leading to the Babylonian exile of the Israelites.
A solar eclipse occurred during a battle between the Lydians and the Medes in what is now Turkey. It is one of the earliest recorded events in history.
