The Siege of Famagusta, began on September 17, 1570, and lasted until August 5, 1571, marking the final, brutal showdown of the Ottoman–Venetian War (1570–1573) for control of Cyprus. The siege resulted in an Ottoman victory, leading to over 300 years of Ottoman rule on the island.
