1363, Aug 30 - Oct 4

The naval Battle of Lake Poyang takes place between rival rebel leaders Zhu Yuanzhang and Chen Youliang who competed during the Red turban Rebellion to overthrow the Yuan dynasty and establish a new one. The battle resulted in Zhu destroying Chen's fleet and the death of Chen himself. 

August 23 - 30

The WW1 battle of Tannenberg between the Germans and the Russians ends. The German forces, led by Paul von Hindenburg and Erich Ludendorff, handed Russia a crushing defeat resulting in the destruction of the Russian Second Army, with 120,000-170,000 soldiers killed, injured, or captured by the German 8th Army. More

Soviet leader Vladimir Lenin is shot by Fanya Kaplan, a member of the Social Revolutionary party. Lenin was seriously wounded but survived the attack which was the third assassination attempt on his life. More

Turkey, officially the Republic of Türkiye, Victory Day. It is also known as Turkish Armed Forces Day and commemorates the decisive victory in the Battle of Dumlupınar in 1922, the last battle in the Greco-Turkish War. It is also observed by Northern Cyprus. The victory also marks the end of Greek military presence in Anatolia.

North Vietnam's president, Ho Chi Minh response to President Nixon's letter is received at the White House three days before Ho Chi Minh death in Hanoi from a heart attack on September 2, 1969 at the age of 79. More

The final U.S. military plane takes off from Afghanistan's Kabul International airport, just before the midnight deadline, officially marking the end to a nearly 20-year U.S. military presence in Afghanistan.
