"Urban trees need a little extra care. In the German capital, anyone can give it to them. over the past few years those valuable species have begun to suffer due to Berlin’s increasingly extreme weather, which has seen summers become longer and drier and winters become wetter and stormier" Read more

NASA Astronomy Picture of the Day:

very time two massive black holes collide, a loud chirping sound is broadcast out into the universe in gravitational waves. Humanity has only had the technology to hear these unusual chirps for the past seven years, but since then we have heard about 90 -- during the first three observing runs. Featured above are the spectrograms -- plots of gravitational-wave frequency versus time -- of these 90 as detected by the giant detectors of LIGO (in the USA), VIRGO (in Europe), and KAGRA (in Japan). The more energy received on Earth from a collision, the brighter it appears on the graphic. Among many science firsts, these gravitational-radiation chirps are giving humanity an unprecedented inventory of black holes and neutron stars, and a new way to measure the expansion rate of our universe. A fourth gravitational wave observing run with increased sensitivity is currently planned to begin in 2022 December.

"Food wastage is a global problem, and we all have a part to play in reducing it. As consumers, we throw away too much food. I am an emotional mess.
My mind is in pain.
The sorrow I feel,
is hard to explain.
We have been married
over 64 years,
but soon will be
separated and tears
will leak from eyes,
wet with the dew,
thinking about us.
Thinking about you.

A Grouse,
an Old Speckled Hen,
were drinks of choice
way back when.
We would go have
a drink at the
local watering hole.
The Grouse was Famous,
a nice, blended Scotch.
The Hen was English
beer. A nice tasting brew.
We would watch
soccer matches, having a few.

A lone, single hand
was resting at four.
A minute hand working;
doing it's chore.
The hour hand was missing,
unable to find it's place
in the correct position,
on the clock face.
What time is it?
someone would yell,
it is 20 minutes after something
is all I can tell.

When I grow old,
getting in the way,
please treat me kindly,
keeping embarrassment at bay.
I may be quite slow,
but dumb I am not.
Having more knowledge
than you, but I just forgot.

Drink = I did imbibe.
Drank = I imbibed more.
Drunk = I'm on the floor.

When was the day,
where was the fear?
Was victory close,
to being here?
I don't know, but found,
my mind has gone,
short to ground.
Talk not to me about Apps,
when my brain is functioning
with an intermittent synapse.

NASA Astronomy Picture of the Day:

What's that unusual spot on the Moon? It's the International Space Station. Using precise timing, the Earth-orbiting space platform was photographed in front of a partially lit gibbous Moon last month. The featured composite, taken from Payson, Arizona, USA last month, was intricately composed by combining, in part, many 1/2000-second images from a video of the ISS crossing the Moon. A close inspection of this unusually crisp ISS silhouette will reveal the outlines of numerous solar panels and trusses. The bright crater Tycho is visible on the upper left, as well as comparatively rough, light colored terrain known as highlands, and relatively smooth, dark colored areas known as maria. On-line tools can tell you when the International Space Station will be visible from your area.

"By one estimate, the average American had data stolen at least four times in 2019. And the hits keep coming. For instance, a data breach at the wireless carrier T-Mobile reported in August 2021 affected 100 million people." Read more
