I don't believe,
I want to know,
but what happens,
when I have to go,

away from this place,
of sadness and woe.
Tell me please,
for I don't know.

Ahoy, the ship,
sailing in the night.
How do you run,
without a light?

Light may come,
in daylight, bright,
or with lanterns,
during the night.

Should you be,
where you are?
Does it matter,
if near or far?

NASA Astronomy Picture of the Day:

How big is our universe? This question, among others, was debated by two leading astronomers in 1920 in what has since become known as astronomy's Great Debate. Many astronomers then believed that our Milky Way Galaxy was the entire universe. Many others, though, believed that our galaxy was just one of many. In the Great Debate, each argument was detailed, but no consensus was reached. The answer came over three years later with the detected variation of single spot in the Andromeda Nebula, as shown on the original glass discovery plate digitally reproduced here. When Edwin Hubble compared images, he noticed that this spot varied, and on October 6, 1923 wrote "VAR!" on the plate. The best explanation, Hubble knew, was that this spot was the image of a variable star that was very far away. So M31 was really the Andromeda Galaxy -- a galaxy possibly similar to our own. Annotated 100 years ago, the featured image may not be pretty, but the variable spot on it opened a window through which humanity gazed knowingly, for the first time, into a surprisingly vast cosmos.

Long before I knew you,
well before then,
you were always there.
You're a good friend.

So many years have passed,
since I first met you,
I find in my heart
I still wonder who,

could leave you alone
when there was a need,
to help you through this life,
and make you happy, indeed.

Day has ended.
My thoughts escape,
to the corners
of my mind.

To hide away
from the troubles,
unwanted now,
every day.

Why? There is no escape,
just a wasted journey,
into the dark corners
of wonder and mystery.

Yet, I delay,
receiving no comfort
from retreating
to the long shadows.

I thought I knew,
what life was about.
We leave here at a whisper,
not a shout.

All we were,
will never be,
only a part
of a memory.

My toes were cold,
in the sand
on the beach,
Cannon Beach land.

Sound of "gulls",
in the air.
They were,
everywhere.

Crashing of waves,
with sea spray.
No wonder, I love,
this getaway.

A single leaf clings,
to the branch of a tree.
Hanging, alone,
so precariously.

My words lay,
lodged, in my head,
some words, worried,
not being said.

I'll read these tonight,
to find the reason here,
it's not important,
only that they are near.

"First, the shrimp disappeared. In late 1980s, the catch became so poor that Diane Wilson, a fourth-generation shrimper, had to take a job running a fish house in Seadrift in Calhoun County, Texas, where she grew up and still lives. Then beached, diseased 300-pound dolphins started appearing, and dead pelicans kept floating to the shores of Lavaca Bay"  More at Reasons to be Cheerful ➜

"A vaccine against tuberculosis, the world’s deadliest infectious disease, has never been closer to reality, with the potential to save millions of lives. But its development slowed after its corporate owner focused on more profitable vaccines" More at ProPublica ➜
