Paper Route

There was a time, that I do recall.
It may have been Winter or the Fall.
Coming home late, in early morning hours,
It was beginning to rain, more like showers.
The oldest son, had a newspaper route,
So I decided to wake him and help out.
The papers were delivered to our front door,
So I brought them in, to lay on the floor.
Folding the papers, to protect from the rain,
Was the routine, that I did now maintain.
I was down on my knees, this early day,
When my wife's voice, I heard say,
"What do you think you're doing there?"
My reply was, "Taking our son on his route."
Her voice came back to me, "In your suit?"
My response, not the best, "It's a classy neighborhood."
Out on the route, I took our young son,
Delivering papers, until it was done.
Back to the house, to shower and change
And drive back to work, in my mélange.
As I recall that there was no discussion
For the next several days.

No Matter

No matter the time
No matter the place.
I still can recall
Your beautiful face.
A face that radiates
Your happiness.
Among wind blown trees,
You were the loveliest one.
The one I'd see, at morning Sun.
The years have passed,
Oh so quickly
But your age defies,
What I see.
Your skin is so clear,
Without a flaw.
Are you sure
That you're a Grandma?

A wise man once said, If a man’s wealth be measured in grains of rice, he could hold all the riches of the world in his hands. Okay, so that man was an idiot. He was also my Uncle Larry, and he died penniless – unless you count the 850 boxes of Minute Rice found in his basement after his funeral................. Read the complete article at View from the Bleachers

A Frog

A young frog sat on his pad,
Not an Apple but a lily, he had.
While on the pad, he did perch
Quietly, like he was in church.
In church, for a frog, I'd soon see
Was done for protection, not reverie.
For frogs of his size, could soon
Be eaten by a bird. No not a Loon.
The dangers for him, would go on.
His fear was the mighty Blue Heron.
A long shadow, cut through his light;
He jumped into the water, out of sight,
Holding his breath, he managed to stay
And escaped the Heron, at least for today.

Relive the Past

Can you help me, relive the past
When days were long but didn't last?
As long as there was light to see,
Our parents would always let us be.
Having fun playing Kick the Can,
An exercise, as we ran and ran.
Running, chasing others, scurrying about
While listening for that loud shout
From parents, yelling, "It's time for home".

Crazy

Why must I sit here with my mind all hazy?
I'm thinking (not good), that I'm going crazy.
It is a danger when I think, like I do,
That I become estranged, from someone like you.
Doesn't mean, I don't love who you are,
Just that you're on a pedestal and a star.
I do love you, more than you'll ever know,
So let's get with it and on with the show.
