Sixty-six years ago,
June 8th, Thursday,
we were married.
Those were wonderful
years. Not always smooth,
but we made it through
the difficult parts.

Now we will see each other,
she won't remember my
name but will tell me she
loves me, repeatedly.
How have I been so lucky
these past 9 years and
she has not.

Sleep escapes me,
one night more.
It's getting old,
but I don't snore.

Can't stay awake
the following day.
What a great life
when I'm napping away.

This past week,
a change came about,
no more fighting,
or lashing out.

I now have with me,
one who is alive,
behaving as a child,
She is eighty-five.

The end of days,
comes slowly now,
as an elderly couple,
renew their vows.

Both in wheelchairs,
moving around,
quietly, using their
feet, without sound.

A touch of fingers,
running through her hair.
She knows it's him,
still not aware.

They live apart.
She's in memory care.
He's in Independent,
up the stair.

Cloaked in a wavering,
veil of indifference.
Emotional bursts
of sadness.
What will life be,
when the love,
I've known, goes away?

My mind runs amok,
out of control.
Emotionally spent,
with still a yearning,
for you.

When love's song,
a sweet refrain,
brings back memories,
of you.

Matters not the words
or the musical notes,
for my love,
to you.

I came to you,
a humble man,
asking your dad,
for your hand.

Would I love you,
more than I should,
if I could fix you?
I wish I could.

Your smile today,
I'm missing it so.
You my love,
are all I know.

Fresh were her eyes,
the brown shining through.
What happens to you now,
while I am searching for you?

The days of yore,
have passed us by,
as youthful love
has become a why.

Why did we waste,
those youthful days,
full of love,
ripe with praise.

Do you recall,
your happiest time,
when love was free,
when you were mine?

I long for all,
the youthful bliss,
when love was more,
than a simple kiss.

I'll be here,
for you my sweet,
as only you,
make my life complete.

My Love for you,
shows no bounds.
It's how I feel,
when you're around.

Is this the life I wanted?
Is this the life I yearned?
I wish it were all of those,
this life, was trashed and burned
