Ashes

Ashes, borne by the wind
with embers ablaze,
falling to grasses,
within the heavy haze.

A small puff of smoke,
like ink to a page,
thus, became another
California fire outrage.

So many lives ruined,
property loss, dismay,
cannot it be fixed
and be put away?

Is the vast loss of property,
more important than loss of life?
So much loss and suffering,
with unneeded strife.
