Hither and Yon

What kind of words are
hither and yon?
Are they words you say,
for something beyond?
Does hither mean come
again to me,
for if you do not I may flee?
Does the word yon,
mean far away, across the pond,
to a foreign land, once here,
now gone?
Do the words together mean
to wander about aimlessly,
doing it together, simply free?
