Skipping Stones
A Comment by Loy
hmm... so that's the secret!

It was for me. LOL
I remember my first attempt
at skipping a stone.
"Kerplunk" was the noise,
I heard all alone.
Finally I made my body
and forearm twist,
by throwing flatter
and a flick of my wrist.
The stone left my hand
at a shallow trajectory,
skipping across the water
as far as I could see.
The light shone bright
thru the window pane.
An eternal life's lamp;
a bright, flickering flame.
A shadow cast broadly
on the objects below
as the light's reflection,
made darkness into snow.
My heart aches,
I think of thee
and of the World,
we were going to see.
No longer a trip to plan,
for travel will not be,
in our future, I scan.
It was long ago,
when a boy and his dog,
would, "Hit the road"
and walk the trails,
with fishing pole in hand.
Life was so grand,
when mile after mile,
passed by. Walking from
Riverton Heights to
Maple Valley. It was
a trek, for a Boy Scout,
newbie to make.
As I sit and stare
at the empty chair,
waiting for you to show,
I am remembering when
you were my only friend,
and I was your beau.
So many years now gone,
I thought I would try
to rekindle the warming flame.
I walked with you,
in our better days.
I talked to you,
about many things.
I speak to you,
my heart sings.
I share with you,
my love this day.
I think of you,
your mind, gone away.
I love you now
and will every day.
When a loved one,
leaves your life, suddenly,
there is time to grieve
and to heal.
When a loved one,
is lost by Dementia,
the body is there,
but no memories.
How do you heal
your broken heart,
when she sits
next to thee,
but remembers not
your time together?
The sharp edge of fear,
stroked the back of her hair.
It covered her body,
with angst and despair.
She cannot reason
or think for herself,
although there are moments,
I see the old you,
in many actions taken
and then it ends, like
turning off the "proverbial switch".
What happened to logic?
It is no longer in play,
as we move quickly towards
another lost day.
Fix the fire,
fix the light,
guide me through
the lonely night.
I hear the thunder.
Lighting blinds my eyes.
A Summer storm,
can be a huge surprise,
working at the golf course
the entire day
when a Clap of thunder,
came to our location.
The wind began blowing,
the rain coming sideways.
We had many on the course
when management suspended play.
All of the Marshals
who were working that day,
drove around the course
to help the customers back
to the Clubhouse.
We were successful as
there were no injuries.
All customers were given
credit for a future round.
Down the hill,
slowly he trod.
Searching for love,
searching for God.
Searching the World
for those he has lost.
Why do we search,
when something is gone.
Shouldn't we leave
and carry on?"
Pick up the thread,
mending the break,
for our life's journey
will soon be
our life's wake.
When the words,
"I want to go home"
pour forth from she
or "I miss my mom
and my dad, they
are both gone."
My heart breaks for her
and her memories lost.
My wife remembers little
of our previous life,
knows not of family,
except she will talk
of our granddaughter,
when seeing her picture
on the hall wall.
