You Say

She doesn’t know your name but she knows she loves you - of that she is certain

Once again you bring your wise and honest reply. I found that true, all the years we worked together.
You say "I love you"
over and over again.
I'm uncertain you mean them
when you don't know my name.
For lack of love
the spirit died,
from outside in,
love was denied.
Go you now,
you must decide,
to bring together,
and be unified.
Follow the path,
see where it goes.
Smell the flowers,
if there is a Rose.
Walk the shadowed path,
beneath the tall trees.
Hold my hand, once more,
let our minds run free,
as all of the love,
I have for thee,
will manifest,
so amicably.
Off again,
I must go,
to move mountains,
as we prepare,
to move you
into a unit; Memory Care
I sit in my chair,
looking at thee
and I see my love,
with her own beauty.
A shell, mostly empty.
Dementia is the one
which took her from me.
The Seagull was flying;
into the sky it did soar,
with updraft of air,
above the beautiful Ocean shore.
I love the sound of the waves
as they crash, then crash more.
The cry of a Seagull, in my ear,
on this sunny, windy day,
attacks my senses
as does the smell of sea spray.
Take off your shoes,
barefoot in the sand,
return to Nature,
is yours to command.
My life is almost over,
my judgement day will come,
when I no longer have
a value and I will succumb.
She wakes in the morning.
I've been up for awhile.
No good morning,
not even a smile
and she says, "I don't know
where I am; who are you?"
I am becoming an embittered old man,
who still cares for you.
Sometimes I feel abandoned,
yet I know it isn't true,
but in my confusion,
I know not what to do.
Moving her now to Memory Care,
will benefit her too,
but the guilt in my mind
will always be true.
There is a frailty,
in this life we live.
We see it every day,
as our loved ones,
become sick or ill
and then pass away.
They may be our friends,
or family members too.
No matter who they were
it is always hard on you.
I care about you,
even when you challenge me.
I've made an oath
and pledged my life,
to always be with thee,
"In sickness and in health."
No matter what people say
it will be up to me,
if you are to go away.
I was a short term baby.
An accidental pregnancy.
If I had been aborted,
no matter what the cause,
I wouldn't be here. I'd be
the man who never was.
