Justin II succeeds his uncle, Justinian I, as Eastern Roman Emperor on November 14, 565 following Justinian's death. His reign lasted until 578, it was marked by initial populism followed by conflicts with the Sassanid Empire and the  Lombard invasion of Italy, 

The Siege of Ma'arrat al-Numan begins during the First Crusade, resulting in the capture of the town and its gruesome events.

The Council of Poitiers begins, addressing issues related to simony and clerical marriage within the Catholic Church.

Robert Traill Spence Lowell IV (1917 – 1977) was an American poet born into a Boston influential family that could trace its origins back to the Mayflower. His family, past and present, were important subjects in his poetry. Growing up in Boston also informed his poems, which were frequently set in Boston and the New England region. The literary scholar Paula Hayes believes that Lowell mythologized New England, particularly in his early work.

James Montgomery Flagg used the familiar figure of "Uncle Sam" and thus created the most famous recruiting poster by the U.S. Army. From April 1917 to autumn of 1918 more than four million pieces of it were printed. Still utilized in more recent times, this print was probably made in 1975. Today is Veterans Day in the United States.

Ursula K. Le Guin ( 1929 – 2018) was an American author born in Berkley, California. She is best known for her works of speculative fiction.  Her work was first published in 1959, and her literary career spanned nearly sixty years, producing more than twenty novels and more than a hundred short stories, in addition to poetry, literary criticism, translations, and children's books. She is frequently described as an author of science fiction and has also been called a "major voice in American Letters". Le  Guin said that she would prefer to be known as an "American novelist". More
