HIBOU ~ Live @ Chop Suey!Followed by: DISORDER: An 80s + New Wave Dance Night!(If you have tickets for HIBOU, entry for DISORDER is free all night!)---Amidst an atmosphere of melancholia, Peter Michel has thrown himself into a lifetimes worth of writing, recording and touring. At just 17 the musician toured extensively with dream-pop outfit Craft Spells, and soon after he met critical acclaim with his own personal project Hibou.Forging his own lo-fi, shoegaze-inspired sound with three full-length LPs under his belt to date, Hibou creates meticulous landscapes filled with swooning and hazy reflections on love, loss, nostalgia and joy from a 10,000 foot view. Plucking from a diverse sphere of influence and citing the likes of New Order, Conor Oberst, My Bloody Valentine and Adrianne Lenker as inspirations, his music slips is misty and wistful: a testament to the fantasies that emerge from a mind unmoored.Having made music under the Hibou alias since 2013, Hibou has gained praise from the likes of Pitchfork, Consequence of Sound and KEXP. Performing live as a four-piece, Michel and his band have toured with the likes of Metric, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Phantogram and more and have performed at numerous festivals including SXSW, Bumbershoot, Sasquatch and Timber!.

French Cassettes music is filled with winding melodies that pop up unexpectedly but grab hold and dont let go and may leave you asking who needs hands with hooks like these? The harmony-driven power-pop quartets new LP, Rolodex (Sophomore LP released on Tender Loving Empire), was conceived beneath a stairwell in the bands adopted hometown of San Francisco, where frontman Scott Huerta spent months staying up until 4 am, obsessing over elaborate demos that would eventually become his bands sophomore album. I adopted the mentality, which was probably unhealthy, that every song I wrote needed to be my favorite song, he remembers. I lost my mind so many times in the middle of the night. The album was self-recorded by lead guitarist Mackenzie Bunch in just about every corner of the Bay Area, and the songs that were eventually stitched together are hook-filled and rooted in pop. But theyre also layered and intricate recordings: complex vocal harmonies and counter-harmonies, Rob Mills inventive percussion, Thomas (Scotts brother) honey-coated basslines, and every shade of clean and fuzzy guitars stacked up like an orchestra. These uncommonly majestic, esoteric pop forms serve as the perfect delivery service for Huertas playful and verbose lyrics, which are often presented as semi-autobiographical puzzles.Taken together, the eight tracks and 24 minutes that make up Rolodex are an epic statement of purpose in a decidedly taut package. One that brought a band back together, more mature and more ambitious than ever.

Lobby Sessions is an up close ve yet to discover. The Kerrys: Blossoming within their small Seattle apartment during the 2020 lockdown, The Kerrys originated as a sanctuary of expression for Jos and Mauricio. From their song-a-day sessions emerged a treasure trove of demos, shared among friends, sparking the transformation into a seven-piece ensemble. The dynamic expanded with the addition of Sebastian and Aiden, propelling the release of their initial singles. Bolstered by the success of these tracks, Bryce, Owen, and Rylan joined the ranks, broadening their sonic palette.
