On July 4, 1776, a new nation was brought into the world, as the Second Continental Congress unanimously adopted the Declaration of Independence to announce the colonies' separation from the Kingdom of Great Britain.

Congress had voted in favor of independence from Great Britain on July 2 but did not actually complete the process of revising the Declaration of Independence which was originally drafted by Thomas Jefferson in consultation with fellow committee members John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Roger Sherman, and William Livingston and submitted to Congress on June 28th 1776.

Join in for the 5th annual 5K at Lake Padden in Bellingham! The event will take place on Saturday, September 7th, 2019 at 10:00 am. The proceeds from the race will benefit The Somero Project and the partnership with Evergreen Primary School in Kotolo, Uganda. Bring your friends, family, kids, and dogs to come run for a good cause!

Registration fee is $30 per person and free for kids ages 10 and under. There will be a raffle so come wearing your lucky socks! Necklaces will be for sale after the race, along with a pancake breakfast for everyone to enjoy!

Bring the family down for a night of free science fun! This event is great and educational for all ages! This event is FREE and open to all members of the Mount Vernon community. Join Mount Vernon High School students for some hands on science, chemistry, physics, marine biology, anatomy, geology and forensic science! There will be two sessions of rocket launching, too! Local businesses will be set up there to show you how they use science every day. Enjoy dinner from the food trucks that will be there for some delicious local dining opportunities! Come show your support!
