Join the Washington Wildlife & Recreation Coalition for breakfast for our 30th Anniversary annual breakfast at The Westin Seattle on September 19, 2019. Together, we will celebrate the incredible work of the Coalition and and all of our wonderful partners.

The Coalition represents hundreds of the most diverse and bipartisan organizations and individuals imaginable. We provide a unified voice for public funding of conservation and outdoor recreation projects across our beautiful state. Come learn about some of the projects your support has made possible and help us build toward even greater success in the years to come!

That's why each year, the Coalition invites our supporters for breakfast to honor leaders from across the state who make Washington a wilder, healthier, and overall better place to live. From advocates with lifetime legacies to those whose work is just getting started, we know that leaders come from across the state and from every walk of life.

We recognize the outstanding contributions of lifetime conservation champions with the Joan Thomas Award. The award honors those who have worked tirelessly throughout their lifetimes to ensure the next generation has access to the same beautiful parks, wildlife habitat and working farms that we enjoy today. This year, the Coalition is pleased to present the Joan Thomas award to Sally Jewell.

The Coalition is also excited to honor Teresa Bendito, Kaiwen Lee and Alberto Rodriguez -- three incredible young leaders who are empowering their communities and bringing the outdoors closer to home. They advocate for clean water, engage youth with opportunities, and create culturally relevant spaces. The Coalition is looking FORWARD, and the future of our outdoors is in good hands. Developing our palates is an essential practice for evaluating coffees. Cupping Fundamentals introduces students to cupping, a standardized process of assessing coffees used by professionals across the globe. This lab provides an overview of the uses and history of cupping, as well as common terminology and protocol guidelines. Students will be guided through several exercises to develop their sense of smell, taste, and to process complex information through sensory perception.

Q: Is there parking available?

A: There are several parking garages and surface lots nearby. Street parkig is also available, but it's crazy expensive. 

Q: Is lunch provided?

A: Please plan on bringing a lunch or going to a nearby cafe or restaurant. We will provide a light snack during a midmorning break and will take an hour long lunch break.

Topic:  We will discuss the many ways that Safeway supports the nonprofit sector in the areas of philanthropy, sponsorship, cause-related marketing, employee volunteerism and workplace giving.

The room will be just across the hall from the cafeteria on your right. There is a receptionist at the entrance who will be able to help point you in the right direction.

Parking: Visitor parking lots are noted with a “P” on the campus map. There is also a public pay parking lot off of Aloha Street, as well as plenty of street parking in the area.

Our Interview with an Industry Legend features Dr. Josh Makower interviewed by David Cassak

 

Dr. Josh Makower

Josh is a full-time General Partner in New Enterprise Associates (NEA) medtech/healthtech practice. He is the founder of ExploraMed, a medical device incubator that has created eight companies over the past 20 years, four of which exited through acquisition. In addition to his role at NEA, Josh serves on the faculty of the Stanford University Medical School as an Adjunct Professor of Medicine and is Co-Founder of Stanford’s Biodesign Innovation Program. He holds over 300 patents and patent applications for various medical devices in the fields of cardiology, ENT, general surgery, drug delivery, obesity, orthopedics, women’s health, and urology.

 

David Cassak

David is Co-Founder and Managing Partner of MedTech Strategist. David has more than 30 years of experience in the healthcare industry with numerous publications providing information and analysis in medical technology.
