This day of sadness, is bringing forth,
Mixed emotions, of love, pain and sorrow,
For the loss of a loved one,
Who will not see another tomorrow.
The loss is full; grief and sadness,
With prayers to all, who must remain,
To carry on today and another morrow.
My prayers for you, now must begin,
My heart is broken, for your loss.
May God bless you, one and all.

Unable to sleep, the night before,
Waking, for that morning moment,
When arising, in the darkest black,
Eating a breakfast, of eggs and bacon,
Anxious to leave.
The anticipation, of seeing your
First animal, at any moment,
Carries you through the morning
And when, that moment happens,
Excitement, courses through
Your veins, overpowering
All your senses.
The shortness of breath,
Blood pounding in your temples
And then swiftly,
The animals are gone
And you're alone.

Here it is, 5 a.m. and I have been,
awake for hours.
Perhaps, I can write the words,
rattling around, in my head
and so, I'll make an effort,
to remove all the dread,
of ever being able to sleep,
for more than 2 hours,
in my warm, comfy bed.
Sleeping in my recliner,
is not a problem
as attested by my wife.
Switching to another page,
as I feel these many words,
trying to escape to paper.

Cars all wet and glistening
Are darting in and out,
Swerving with indifference,
While impeding paths of others.

The green of many signals,
Hanging in the streets,
The flashing lights of neon,
Distorting, all that pass, beneath.

And then the dark Sears tower,
Is seen by sleepy eyes,
The workday, drawing closer,
As cars are parked and locked.

The sound of rapid footsteps,
A smell of soft perfume,
A spot of red, from cigarettes,
Flicker in the gloom.

A quick, short walk, on sidewalks,
A few "Good Morning" friends.
Then trudging up the stairwell
And puffing at the top, I catch my breath.

Hurry to the office,
Out the back, rear door,
Stopping at the mirror,
To check my appearance.

Grab a cup of coffee,
A piece of toast or two.
Sit down at the table
And listen, to those who talk.

The sound of a hundred voices,
In discordant harmony,
Reminds me of a bee-hive
And of the sound of bees.

At last the bell is ringing,
So I hurry to my work,
To say hello to people,
Who I appreciate.
