His responsibility was \r\nmanaging the water flow at the Whipple Creek\r\nPumping Plant, in Badger Pocket.\r\nThere were a series of ditches and canals\r\ncarrying water to the farming country, East\r\nof Kittitas.\r\nThe Highline Canal, moved water from Lake\r\nEaston through Kittitas County.\r\nMy grandfather and grandmother lived in a large\r\nhouse, near the pumping plant.\r\nMy cousins and I would spend many  a Summer,\r\nwhen we were younger; pre teen.\r\nThe Highline Canal was up the hill from the\r\nhouse. There was a spillway that brought \r\nwater down to a basin, the water moved via a \r\nshort canal to the pumping plant, where it \r\nwas pumped up another hill to a ditch that \r\nwas East of the pumping plants.\r\nSurplus water would pass through the \r\npumping plant and was distributed to the flatter\r\nland South.\r\nMy cousins and I would fish from the ditch\r\nor swim in the water, below the pumping plant.\r\nGreat memories from so long ago.\r\nWe would go east of the house and gather\r\npetrified wood.
